Wounded Healer

Jung said that in order to be a true healer one has to be wounded oneself. I read the article about that on Wikipedia (see it HERE) and they state that:

“73.9% of counselors and psychotherapists have experienced one or more wounding experiences leading to career choice.”

Is there an adult alive over the age of 40 who had never had a wounding experience? I only wish that more adults had the same caring urge as therapists and healers.

Also I strongly believe that you can’t be an effective healer if you haven’t really lived pain, in whatever form. How would you be able to understand what the other is feeling without having been down that hole yourself?

I have Chiron in my 10th house which I fancy means I’m seen as a healer, whereas other Astrologers have said that it’s the wound that defines me. Huh. Let’s see what the Tarot thinks:

Tarot de Jacques Viéville

And as usual from the Tarot: what elegance, what subtlety in this answer. The central card – 2 of Wands – is the card of yearning and urges without sense or foundation. The left-hand card is the 10 of Wands, someone who has fought and lost or at least fought and suffered. On the right is the 5 of Disks, someone who is outside society, who struggles with paranoia and feeling ostracised.

I yearn to be a full-time healer, and behind me is the experience of having healed myself from Crohn’s disease – find out about all of that HERE – which was probably the catalyst for my wanting to be a healer, and before me is still this feeling of never being able to be accepted or successful. So the Tarot says that it’s the wound that defines me. Not exactly the answer I wanted but certainly very enlightening.

But also we could see something more general, an urge to heal coming from and feeding back into difficulty and stress. So then, I’m both seen as a Healer and define myself as wounded because the two are the same for me.

What do you think? What brought on your urge to heal? Do you agree with my Tarot reading interpretation? Can young people with no real life experience heal? Start the conversation below.

Bhagvad Gita Narrated in English on iMusic

Well would you look at that. Instead of listening to the Bhagvad Gita on YouTube and needing to keep the screen on the whole time, now you can download it on iMusic. Fabulous.

I listen to it in the car, while I’m folding the laundry, cooking or strap-hanging on my train home. For me, the point is that I’m not closely listening, but that I know it because I’ve heard it so many times. I must have listened to this intensely amazing scripture dozens of times.

Here’s a snippet from Chapter 4:

”Chapter 4, Verse 18

One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is intelligent among men, and he is in the tranecendental position, although engaged in all sorts of activities.

Chapter 4, Verse 19

One is understood to be in full knowledge whose every act is devoid of desire for sense gratification. He is said by sages to be a worker whose fruitive action is burned up by the fire of perfect knowledge.

Chapter 4, Verse 20

Abandoning all attachment to the results of his activities, ever satisfied and independant, he performs no fruitive action, although engaged in all kinds of undertakings.

Chapter 4, Verse 21

Such a man of understanding acts with mind and intelligence perfectly controlled, gives up all sense of proprietorship over his possessions and acts only for the bare necessities of life. Thus working, he is not affected by sinful reactions.

Chapter 4, Verse 22

He who is satisfied with gain which comes of its own accord, who is free from duality and does not envy, who is steady both in success and failure, is never entangled, although performing actions.

Chapter 4, Verse 23

The work of a man who is unattached to the modes of material nature and who is fully situated in transcendental knowledge merges entirely into transcendence.

Chapter 4, Verse 24

A person who is fully absorbed in Krsna consciousness is sure to attain the spiritual kingdom because of his full contribution to spiritual activities, in which the consummation is absolute and that which is offered is of the same spiritual nature.”
